Most PoC platforms are built on existing SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technologies which were designed for one-to-one communications in telephone systems. When using these technologies for one-to-many communications, most platforms will build a “pseudo one-to-many” system by opening a one-to-one session for every radio, one after the other. This carries a small delay between each receiving radio which, in a large fleet of radios, can add up to whole seconds between one radio transmitting and one radio receiving.

The Rapid™ platform requires Android OS and therefore is compatible with many devices. Purpose-built Push-To-Talk devices like those from Talkpod work best as their design and button layout make for a much better 2-way radio-like experience. Further to this, the Rapid engineers have customised their app to suit Talkpod devices maximising functionality and providing a seamless experience for the end user.
